Innovative approach to supporting Perth & Kinross tenants with hoarding difficulties
Perth & Kinross Council has approved a new hoarding protocol to support tenants with hoarding difficulties.
Members of the council’s housing & health committee heard that the protocol was developed to ensure that tenants with hoarding difficulties were responded to in a co-ordinated way.
At the heart of the approach is a multi-agency response, with housing teams working closely with social care, health, and voluntary sector partners to ensure that each situation is considered individually, and the tenants supported with a package of action and support to help them regain control of their homes and their lives.
Bill Atkinson, executive director (housing & community safety), advised the council that in addition to the members of the working group listed within the report, the protocol had previously been discussed with the Perth and Kinross adult protection committee, and Independent Advocacy are part of that process.
Bill added: “This is about trying to support and deal with vulnerable people, and the challenges that they face.”
