Janice Russell shortlisted twice for Scottish Women’s Awards 2023
The new boss of family firm McTaggart Construction has been shortlisted twice in the prestigious Scottish Women’s Awards 2023.
Managing director Janice Russell has been recognised for her outstanding achievements in the male-dominated world of construction in both the Business of the Year and Family-run Business of the Year categories.
The Dalry-based business has doubled turnover to more than £90 million in just over five years. In addition, the firm has stayed true to its family values by investing in local jobs and the communities it serves.
Mrs Russell, who previously featured as an SCN Construction Leader, said: “We truly believe that we can change lives and communities for the better by working in partnership with clients and tenants to create employment and training opportunities as well as homes and developments that people want to live in.”
McTaggart Construction specialises in quality affordable homes and was crowned Scotland’s large apprentice employer of the year in the 2023 Skills Development Scotland awards.
Mrs Russell was also recently appointed to the board of Homes for Scotland, the body representing Scotland’s home building sector, with chief executive Jane Wood hailing her insight and experience.
The Scottish Women’s Awards ceremony, organised by Oceanic Events, celebrates and recognises the remarkable impact women across Scotland are making in their respective industries and communities.
“To be shortlisted alongside so many incredible women making a positive difference to all sectors of Scottish life is both humbling and inspiring,” said Mrs Russell.
A spokesperson for the SWAs said: “The sheer talent, resilience, and commitment exhibited by the finalists have left us in awe. Their achievements are an inspiration to women everywhere, empowering future generations to aim high and break barriers.
“The finalists have demonstrated exceptional dedication, innovation, and leadership in their fields, showcasing the diversity and strength of talent present among Scottish women.”
Mrs Russell took over the helm of McTaggart Construction earlier in the year following a management restructure.
Gary Climson, chair of the new board, said the changes followed extensive consultation with staff and business partners on how best to grow the business whilst retaining the McTaggart family values.
Gary said: “Janice is a fantastic asset to the company and her strong leadership and knowledge of the business is driving us forward.”
The winners of the Scottish Women’s Awards 2023 will be announced during a gala evening on September 16 at the Glasgow Marriott Hotel.
