Kingdom celebrates Silver Healthy Working Lives Award
Kingdom Housing Association has received the Silver Healthy Working Lives Award just two years after enrolling in the programme designed to improve health, safety and wellbeing at work leading to a healthier, happier and more productive workforce.
In 2017, Kingdom registered with Healthy Working Lives and 12 months later received the Bronze Award. Realising the positive impact healthy choices could make to the entire organisation, Kingdom took a number of steps to improve the health and wellbeing of its staff, including employing a part-time health and wellbeing officer.
It also engaged in worker consultation, developed fun health campaigns and challenges and developed a more holistic approach to staff wellbeing with the help of its HR and health and safety team.
Bill Banks, Kingdom Housing Association chief executive, said: “One of our strategic objectives is to be an employer of choice so the health and wellbeing of our people is really important to us. It’s really rewarding to get external accreditation that tells us we are doing the right things to promote that. I’ve been really pleased to see staff engaging in the various events and activities we’ve implemented as part of our wellbeing programme and I’m looking forward to us developing that further.”
Annemarie Smith, Healthy Working Lives adviser, added: “The dedication to workplace health from Kingdom Housing has shown dedication to building capacity and a sustainable model to support the health, safety and wellbeing of workers.”
Some of Kingdom’s hugely successful programmes include mental health training for managers, healthy eating advice with shared recipes and regular fresh fruit deliveries, step challenges and suggestions to break sedentary behaviour, mini health checks and staff relaxation sessions including massage and reflexology, staying safe in the sun campaigns and partnerships with Police Scotland and Fife Alcohol Advisory Service.
