Kingdom has pledged its support for Gas Safety Week (17th-23rd September 2018) and will be passing on important information to tenants and customers to raise awareness about the importance of gas safety.

The eighth annual Gas Safety Week sees organisations from across the UK working together to raise awareness of the dangers of poorly maintained gas appliances, which can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.

This year, Gas Safety Week is addressing a whole range of gas safety matters throughout the week, from tackling illegal gas work to reminding people to avoid DIY when it comes to gas appliances and instead leave it the experts – registered engineers who are legally qualified to make sure your appliances are working safely and efficiently.

Kingdom’s technical services manager, Bryan Livingston, said: “Gas appliances that have not properly been maintained can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning. Therefore, it is highly important to have your gas appliances checked by an engineer who is on the Gas Safe Register.”

Bryan added: “This year’s campaign also includes gas safety educational material for customers’ children to use or take away when visiting our office.”

Kingdom’s health and safety officer, Dave Roy, said: “This is the third year we have supported the Gas Safety Week campaign. This year Gas Safety Week is focussing on key messages:

“First - Be in the Know with CO - stay safe and stay alert on carbon monoxide and gas risks and report any faults immediately. Know the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. CO2 gas is known as the ‘silent killer’ as it has no smell, taste or colour. The symptoms of CO2 poisoning include headaches, dizziness, nausea, breathlessness, collapse and loss of consciousness, which can easily be mistaken for something else.

“Second - Only employ a suitably qualified Gas Safe registered engineer when having gas work carried out in your home. Gas Safe Register is the official register for legally qualified engineers. You can find a registered engineer in your area by visiting the Gas Safe Register website at www.GasSafeRegister.co.uk or by calling on 0800 408 5500. Watch out! If they are not on the Gas Safe Register, then they are operating illegally.”
