Kingdom Group’s Forth Bridge abseil for children’s cancer charity

Kingdom Group’s Forth Bridge abseil for children’s cancer charity

Five colleagues from across the Kingdom Group raised over £1,270 abseiling from the Forth Bridge on Sunday 16 June in support of their nominated charity, LoveOliver.

Dedicated to improving the quality of life for children in Scotland diagnosed with cancer and their families, LoveOliver provides financial and practical support as well as funding the development of new treatments through research.

Founded in memory of Oliver Gill who passed away on Christmas Day 2010 aged just 24 weeks after being diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer, LoveOliver is committed to raising awareness of childhood cancer and its impact on families.

Jennifer and Andy Gill, Oliver’s parents, started LoveOliver in 2011 and said: “We had a great afternoon at the Forth Bridge abseil.

“In addition to the five brave abseilers from Kingdom, we had parents abseiling in honour of their incredible children and teenagers, an amazing young lady whose family LoveOliver supported when she had cancer as a teenager, a relative of beautiful Maisie Arroyo in her memory, and other awesome supporters.

“In total 15 supporters took the plunge for LoveOliver and together they have raised over £8,600. Big thanks and well done to them all.”

Jennifer added: “A childhood cancer diagnosis often involves long hospital stays, far from home and support networks. The devastating diagnosis comes with many pressures on top of having your child face many months of gruelling treatment.

“Through the generous donations of supporters, LoveOliver works to relieve these pressures as much as possible so that parents have the time, energy and strength to focus on what matters most, their very ill child.”

Communications and Media Trainee Mia Hastings joined colleagues from Kingdom Housing Association and Kingdom Support & Care to abseil 165 feet from the UNESCO World Heritage Site and Scotland’s best-loved landmark.

She commented: “The abseil from the Forth Rail Bridge was an incredible experience, made even more special by raising funds for LoveOliver, a charity that plays such an important role in helping those families within our communities that are affected by childhood cancer.

“At the Kingdom Group our mission is to provide more than a home and one of the ways we can do that is to support partners that positively impact our customers and communities.

“I know the cost of living crisis has an impact on all of us so, on behalf of the Kingdom abseil team, I’d like to thank everyone who generously supported us with sponsorship.”
