Kingdom Housing Association energy adviser recognised at national Fuel Poverty Awards
Kingdom Housing Association is celebrating after winning a top accolade at Energy Action Scotland’s Fuel Poverty Awards.
Energy adviser Derek Smith received the ‘Exceptional People, Exceptional Times’ award at the Scottish Fuel Poverty Conference for his work supporting Kingdom’s tenants in fuel poverty.
The award recognises the exceptional individuals working in Energy Advice who have made a significant contribution to helping those in crisis during the coronavirus pandemic.
Ric Barnett, Kingdom Housing Association’s tenancy support services coordinator, said: “It is great to see Derek and our energy advice service recognised by a national charity as highly regarded as Energy Action Scotland. Fuel Poverty issues such as energy debt, loss of supply and self disconnection can affect anyone. With many of us experiencing increased financial pressure during the pandemic, it is great to know that KHA has a dedicated member of staff who can help tackle these issues head on.”
Now in its second year, Energy Action Scotland’s Fuel Poverty Awards showcase the dedication and commitment of those working within the sector who regularly go above and beyond to help vulnerable people and communities across the country.
On receiving his award, Derek said: “It was fantastic to be nominated for this award and an honour to actually win it. Fuel poverty is a massive issue overall but the issues of the past 12 months have just added to this. I am proud to work for an organisation that has a dedicated Tenancy Support Team who are all fantastic in the roles they have.”
Kingdom’s tenancy support service offers free and impartial advice to tenants who struggle to heat their homes or are unable to maintain supply due to cost, self-disconnection or any other form of energy crisis.
