Kingdom Housing Association, which recently won a Fife Business Award in the ‘Developing Young Workforce’ category, is to continue its Trainee Programme for the third year running with vacancies for an apprentice electrician as well as trainee positions for customer accounts, customer service and executive support.

The Trainee Programme was launched in 2016 and provides local young people aged 16-24 with the opportunity to work full time in their chosen field for three or four years whilst studying for and gaining the qualifications they need to progress their career.

Bill Banks, chief executive with Kingdom, said: “We are very proud of the trainee and apprenticeship programmes we have implemented. They provide opportunities for young people that are not readily available. It contributes to our objective to be an employer of choice, our learning and development policies and aids our organisational succession planning arrangements.”

Kingdom has already provided opportunities for trainees and apprentices in Human Resources, Finance, Development, IT, Housing, Technical Services, Painting & Decorating and Plumbing over the last two years.

Richard Miller, Kingdom’s development trainee, who was part of the 2016 Trainee Programme, said: “Since joining Kingdom I have so far gained an SVQ Level 3 in Business Administration and CSCS Card. I am currently working towards achieving a HNC Construction Management and as well as this I have had the opportunity to attend numerous other events and training courses throughout my time here. The trainee programme has been an excellent opportunity to earn whilst learning new skills and developing existing ones. I would definitely recommend the scheme to hard working, driven young people looking for a good place to start their career.”

Kirsty Stott, Kingdom’s technical services trainee, was part of the 2017 Trainee Programme.

Kirsty added: “I have enjoyed my time at Kingdom so far. The big benefit that I have found is being directly involved in live projects has really helped when studying the theory at college. I have gained an understanding of the roles of different departments in achieving the organisations objectives and enjoyed working with different people from different teams. By learning and working with the other departments it has allowed me to understand and ease into my role within the organisation.”
