Kingdom Housing Association wins prestigious green award
Kingdom Housing Association is celebrating winning a prestigious award for its ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental best practice.
Kingdom took top honours in the Green Initiative category at Kingdom FM’s Local Hero Awards, the prestigious annual event hosted by the Fife-based commercial radio station.
The Green Initiative award recognises individuals and organisations who have demonstrated a commitment to reducing their carbon footprint and who have identified green outcomes in their practices.
Kingdom Group chief executive Bill Banks said: “Kingdom FM’s Local Hero Awards are extremely important locally and to win the Green Initiative Award means a great deal to the whole team at Kingdom. Kingdom promotes a culture focused on educating, training and motivating staff to conduct their activities in a sustainable manner which benefits the environment, our tenants and the sector as a whole.”
Bill added: “Kingdom was the first housing association in the UK to achieve Passivhaus Accreditation for an affordable social rent property. That was a decade ago and at Kingdom we continue to take our environmental responsibilities very seriously. The carbon footprint of domestic housing has a real impact on global warming and the suite of measures we have adopted to help to tackle the climate emergency are part of our ongoing green strategy.”
Vivian Clarkson, Kingdom FM’s Local Hero Awards event organiser, said: “The Local Hero Awards recognise and celebrate the unsung heroes across Fife. Individuals and organisations who do extraordinary work and who make a real difference to their communities. Kingdom Housing Association clearly demonstrated their green credentials and I’d like to congratulate them for winning the Green Initiative Award 2020.”
As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Kingdom FM announced the winners of each category live on air and across its social media platforms rather than at a gala awards ceremony with the winners’ trophies being presented locally while adhering to the latest COVID-19 restrictions.
