The housebuilder has constructed 537 houses and 152 apartments at the development, which have played a major role in regenerating this part of Glasgow’s East End.

Taking a big leap of faith, Bellway started building on a derelict site at the height of the recession and long before work had started on the area in preparation for the Commonwealth Games.

Recognising that there was a gap in the market for new build homes to cater for local people and the importance of encouraging new people to settle in the area, the housebuilder developed a masterplan designed to attract a wide variety of residents.

All of the homes and apartments have now been reserved and the last residents are expected to move in to the development later this year.

Helping complete the three bedroom Rosedale home was local councillor Frank Docherty, who has seen at first hand how the new development has transformed the area.

Fraser Conn, regional director for Bellway Homes Ltd (Scotland West), said: “When we started on Eastfields we were in the dark days of the property crash but we believed that there was a real need for a development of its kind.

“We did not want Eastfields to be a sprawling estate of identical cookie cutter houses but a place where people would love to live with lots of distinct areas and a wide range of house types so that it would not just appeal to families but first time buyers, young couples, single householders and retirees as well.

“It is wonderful to stand on the site and see a flourishing community which is part of the new East End, which has blossomed thanks to the Commonwealth Games and its fantastic sporting legacy.”

Andy Borland, head of construction for Bellway Homes Ltd (Scotland West), said: “We will be sad to say goodbye to the development as it has meant so much to everyone who has worked there. It is unusual to be on one site for so long and we are all so proud of what we have achieved here.”

Bellway has also invested in the infrastructure of the site, creating toddlers and children’s play areas, a new roads system with a cycleway, two multi-use games areas and a parkland area along the boundary to the railway. The site has also been landscaped throughout.
