LAR Housing Trust to bring number of affordable homes up to 204
LAR Housing Trust is celebrating a raft of new deals in June that takes the organisation’s total number of affordable homes in its portfolio up to 204 at nine sites across Scotland.
May and June, in particular, have been busy periods for LAR with three deals completing in just one week, and another two settled by the end of the month.
Chief executive Ann Leslie said: “We have taken on 82 units during May and June alone, with a further six due to complete shortly. The LAR model has definitely made a mark on the affordable housing sector and I’m delighted with progress so far. We have filled a gap in the market for quality, mid-market rental properties at some really attractive sites around Scotland.
“We are ahead of our target and have made quite an impression in under two years. Developers are keen to engage with us and we hope this will continue going forward.”
LAR, which is based in Dunfermline launched in October 2015 with the aim of providing approximately 1,000 properties at mid-market rents across Scotland over the next five years. It aims to help an increasing number of tenants across Scotland who neither qualify for social housing nor can afford rents in the private sector.
The initial emphasis was on the Aberdeen and Lothian areas, which were considered most in need of quality affordable homes, but the organisation has also completed developments in Glasgow and Fife with proposals also under consideration in many areas across Scotland.
