Last day to donate: hub West Scotland’s Christmas appeal to help children who are living in poverty
Today is the last day of hub West Scotland’s Winter Warmer Appeal, with the organisation calling for members of the public and companies to make one last final push and donate to provide children living in poverty with new warm winter jackets and new wellington boots this Christmas.
The appeal, with charity partner PEEK (Possibilities for Each and Every Kid), received over 1000 donations of jackets and wellington boots in 2019 and hub West Scotland has set a target of beating last year’s total, with the organisation urging anyone who wants to get involved to do so before Friday 11th December.
Iain Marley, chief executive of hub West Scotland, said: “We have had a fantastic response so far from our partners and organisations across the property and construction sectors and members of the public who have kindly made donations.
“We need to close the appeal so that we can crack on with the distribution of the new jackets and boots and get them were they are needed but there is still time to make a difference. Every donation is deeply appreciated so we ask everyone who can to donate – the JustGiving link makes it easier than ever – and help PEEK to support vulnerable families and children this winter.”
Michaela Collins, CEO of PEEK said: “This year, with COVID, this appeal is going to and will make such a difference to families that are struggling to cope, many families have lost their jobs or are on furlough so are really struggling this year. A winter jacket might seem like an essential item but will be beyond the reach of many families we support, especially this year. Please do what you can to make a real difference to children living in poverty by donating to hub West Scotland’s Winter Warmer Appeal.”
As Christmas approaches, it is hard to imagine children going without winter jackets and wellington boots to keep them warm in the cold months across the festive season and into 2021. However, new figures show that one in four children in Glasgow are living in poverty and so they won’t have the appropriate clothing required to keep them warm.
The Winter Warmer Appeal generated a great response last year, with over 1000 new items donated to PEEK. This year, hub West Scotland is asking for help from the public and companies in Scotland (and beyond) to make the appeal even bigger and better. With a number of COVID-19 restrictions still in place, the appeal has adopted a slightly different approach to last year, new winter jackets and new wellington boots can be purchased online and sent straight to the team at PEEK at their headquarters: The Legacy Hub, 301 Springfield Road, Glasgow, G40 3LJ.
This year, a JustGiving page has also been set up so people and companies can donate directly to the appeal, all money raised will be used to purchase warm clothing for those children that need it right across the city. The JustGiving page can be found here - 100% of your donation will be used by PEEK to purchase new winter jackets and wellington boots.
