Letter to the Editor: Systemic failure will have catastrophic effect on social housing supply
Dear Editor,
I refer to Shelter Scotland’s comments in yesterday’s Scottish Housing News, SHR updates thematic report on homelessness services in Scotland.
Although I agree with everything said, the comments do not address an equally disturbing statement in the Scottish Housing Regulator’s report, namely:
“Early findings from our analysis of the five year financial projections (FYFPs) submitted to us by Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) in May show significant reductions in the number of RSLs that will be building new homes and in the number of new homes that will be built.
“We know that some RSLs have announced reductions in the size, or suspension of their new build programmes, since they submitted their FYFPs in May, so it is likely that these numbers will have reduced further.”
Further evidence of a ‘systemic failure’ which will have a catastrophic effect on the ability and capacity to meet the increasingly challenging targets for essential new social housing supply.
Yours,
Craig Sanderson
