A recent event in Stenhousemuir brought together several local groups to provide advice to help older people stay safe and warm this winter.

Working alongside Age Concern Larbert and Stenhousemuir and local community group KLSB, Link welcomed 55 older people, all members of Age Concern Larbert and Stenhousemuir.

Link’s head of community wellbeing Grant Alexander said: “The recent stormy weather has been a stark reminder of how challenging a power cut can be, particularly for older people.

“Link is proud to have brought together a strong network of partners to deliver real, practical support and, through collaboration, we are ensuring people receive help to navigate a wide range of challenges.”

Link played a key role in bringing together SP Energy Networks, LEAP, and other partners, ensuring attendees had direct access to essential advice, practical support, and energy-saving solutions.

SP Energy Networks provided information about the Priority Services Register, giving attendees the opportunity to confirm their details and, if they wanted, sign up to ensure they received updates and assistance in the event of a power cut.

LEAP offered attendees advice and support to improve the energy efficiency of their homes.  Home visits could also be booked to check insulation, fit draught proofing, and assess eligibility for products such as dehumidifiers and heated clothes dryers. Old power-hungry fridges, freezers and electric cookers could be replaced with modern, energy-efficient alternatives through the appliance scheme.

Alex Hastings, chair of Age Concern Larbert and Stenhousemuir, said: “It was a pleasure working alongside Link Group, helping our members receive the support they need during winter. They certainly learnt a lot of useful information which will help them stay safe and warm as well as keep costs down. We are looking forward to working with Link Group at future events. I would thoroughly recommend working with Link Group and their partners as these events really do make a difference to people’s lives.”
