LinkLiving to host event to combat isolation in Fife
LinkLiving is hosting an information event which will showcase its work in reducing isolation for older people in Fife.
The ‘Somebody to Talk to’ event takes place on Thursday 1 February, from 12.30pm to 2.00pm at LinkLiving’s West Bridge Mill facility in Kirkcaldy.
Attendees will have the chance to meet some of the older people LinkLiving work with and hear how its social cafes in Rosyth and Torryburn have made a difference to their lives.
Commenting on the impact the social cafe has had on her, a LinkLiving service user said: “I wouldn’t be here without it. It makes such a difference for all of us – it is much better than sitting in the house all the time looking at the square box in the corner.”
LinkLiving delivers opportunities for older people to participate in meaningful activities at its social cafes or by one-to-one befriending, giving them much needed companionship and support to become more involved in their local communities.
It works with volunteers, offering a network of skills, practical help and friendship, which benefits everyone involved whether helping or being helped.
Paul White, head of operations at LinkLiving, said: “The ‘Somebody to Talk to’ event gives us a platform to illustrate the wider impact of our work with older people who are affected by loneliness and isolation. We hope it will allow us to expand our service to reach more isolated people living in Fife.”
