Linstone Housing unveils new defibrillator to commemorate tenant
Linstone Housing has unveiled a new defibrillator to commemorate the life of a tenant who died in November 2018.
Linstone and its local residents’ association unveiled the new defibrillator at multi-storey flats Belmar and Ashbury Courts - close to where Robert Clement lived.
It was donated by his wife so that it might help save others following Robert’s sudden death at just 51 in November 2018.
The local Tenants’ and Residents’ Association was delighted by the gesture and swung into action quickly by contacting the British Heart Foundation to arrange for the purchase of the machine.
A defibrillator is a device that gives a high-energy electric shock to the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest. This shock is called defibrillation, and it’s an essential way of trying to save a life.
A commemorative plaque - produced by Paisley firm Sneddon Signs - as a tribute to Robert was commissioned by Linstone Housing and has been erected above the defibrillator at the entrance to Belmar Court.
Patsy McFadden, chair of the Tenants and Residents’ Association, said: “We want as many people in Linwood to know that this lifesaving device is here for them should it be needed.
“Cardiac arrests are often fatal and time is of the essence when one occurs. We are in no doubt that this piece of medical equipment will one day save someone’s life. We were very touched when it was donated and it is a fitting legacy which we truly appreciate.”
Adele Fraser, chief executive of Linstone Housing, added: “This is an act of astonishing kindness and thoughtfulness from one of our tenants and we deeply appreciate the gesture. We also know the Linwood community will be immensely grateful that this device is now available.”
