Local housing association residents hold third annual dance event
Residents from housing association sites across East-Central Scotland have come together for their 3rd annual dance and social event in Whitburn.
Around 80 residents from Hanover Scotland sites in West Lothian, Fife and Clackmannanshire gathered at Whitburn Bowling Club on Wednesday 20 September for an afternoon of fun, food and entertainment. They enjoyed a buffet lunch of pies, sandwiches and cake and listened and danced to music by local organ player and singer Jackie Clark.
Residents came from the following Hanover Scotland sites:
The event is self-funded by the residents, who each pay £5 to cover catering, room hire, and entertainment.
Liz McKinley, a resident at Weavers Court in Whitburn who was in charge of organising this year’s event, said: “It’s fantastic to get people together once a year and have a natter over some coffee, cake and music! People sometimes misunderstand older people who live in housing association accommodation but we are active and love enjoying ourselves just like everyone else.
“It is a lot of work to organise but also good fun and we are already making plans for next year.”
Leo Doyle, Hanover Scotland’s operations manager for east-central Scotland, added: “We are delighted that for the third year, residents from these six developments have come together for such a successful and fun event. This shows the amazing capacity and zest for life that our residents have and that Hanover Scotland seeks to encourage.”
“After 3 successful years of this event, we are sure it will take place again next year and we are happy to help in any way we can.”
