Loreburn tenants supported by Stranraer Development Trust
Residents of Loreburn Housing Association in Stranraer have been given some welcome help with the issuing of supermarket and homeware vouchers gifted by Stranraer Development Trust.
The Trust has donated Morrison’s supermarket and Home Hardware vouchers to a value of £3,775 to help Loreburn’s eligible tenants with the weekly shopping bill or to buy homewares and warm goods.
The vouchers have been given to all Loreburn tenants aged over 65 in the town to assist with the current pressures of living costs.
Tommy and Helen McCutcheon, tenants at Loreburn’s Later Living development in Stranraer, commented that the voucher was “a lovely surprise”. Fellow resident Cathy Smith echoed this by saying that the voucher is greatly appreciated and will be useful to help with the costs of her weekly shopping.
Loreburn had been successful in earlier funding bids directly to the Scottish Government’s social housing fuel support fund. A total of £137,000 was distributed to households with children across the region, providing a range of practical help and financial assistance with the costs of living and energy support.
This latest offer will benefit households who have not already received additional support.
Clare Burns, community team manager in the West for Loreburn, said: “We’re very grateful the Trust has recognised the way in which we can reach the town’s citizens and provide this help. Thanks to their support, we’re able to help more of our tenants.”
Christina Johnston, project coordinator for Stranraer Development Trust, added “I feel that coming together to help our local community during this ‘cost of living’ crisis is necessary for local organisations, and to recognize that partnership working strengthens our overall reach, to help those most in need. It is with great thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund, that we have been able to provide this much needed support.”
