Mactaggart & Mickel boosts food banks
Family-owned house-builder Mactaggart & Mickel has handed £1,500 to food banks who are helping people in need amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Glasgow-based Mactaggart & Mickel made a series of donations after media reports suggested supermarket panic-buyers meant food banks were in danger of being denied essential everyday items.
And because that meant some families might have to go without the likes of pasta, tinned food and toilet roll, Mactaggart & Mickel donated £500 each to:
- Mearns Kirk Church, East Renfrewshire
- South Ayrshire Foodbank which serves communities in Ayr, Prestwick, Maybole and Troon
- Denny Baptist Church
The funding has come from Mactaggart & Mickel’s Building Communities Fund and will be handed to food bank organisers to make sure no one in their local area has to go without everyday items.
Joanne Casey, director at Mactaggart & Mickel, said: “The coronavirus pandemic is taking its toll on families from all walks of life across Scotland. That’s been hard to take, but its impact will be especially tough on the growing amount of families who will now be struggling to make ends meet due to no fault of their own and rely on the food banks.
“We have always cared deeply about the people in our communities where we want to make a positive difference – and by putting our money where our mouths are in support of our food banks we’re doing just that.”
The Building Communities Fund was established to enhance the company’s ongoing efforts to help organisations and projects which benefit the people’s lives.
