McTaggart and Cube Housing Association support Maryhill learning hub
McTaggart Construction has handed over a cheque for £3,500 to extend the WiFi at Wyndford Hub in Maryhill and purchase more tablet computers.
A Click & Connect free computer learning centre at the Hub – funded by Wheatley Group and Glasgow Kelvin College – helps 30-40 people per day access the internet and learn vital computer skills. The donation means more people will be able to use the facilities.
McTaggart is currently building 54 new homes for Cube Housing Association, part of Wheatley Group, at Leighton Street in Ruchill.
As part of contract with Cube, McTaggart are required to make a contribution to a community project – and Cube staff had identified the Click & Connect centre at the Hub, which is run by Community Safety Glasgow.
Gary Climson, managing director of McTaggart Construction, said: “We’ve created a number of jobs in the local area, just by building these homes.
“We hope that this donation can support people in Maryhill into employment long after we’ve built the homes.”
Cube director David MacKenzie added: “We always want to increase opportunities for our tenants and this donation to the Click & Connect centre at the Hub will help more people in our communities get all the benefits of being online.”
Councillor Jim Coleman, chair of Community Safety Glasgow (CSG), said: “Maryhill Hub’s digital inclusion programme offers a range of services from basic ICT support, accredited and non-accredited learning as well as employability support.
“Over the past six months, CSG has seen increased demand for these services and this funding will allow us to extend ICT use to other areas of the centre and help more people.
“We would like to thank McTaggart Construction for this kind donation which was arranged via our partner, Cube Housing Association.”
The support comes as part of McTaggart’s Sustainable Communities Programme which seeks to bring tangible benefits to the communities it helps build.
