Mental health awareness and working with the public
Sometimes the world of training can offer a window to the world. You see patterns and trends emerging, issues that the sector is facing that point to what is happening in our communities.
SHARE has recently seen an increase in enquiries about mental health awareness and working with the public, and particularly in situations where service users are upset, anxious or distressed.
This particular insight indicates some of the troubling issues the housing sector, and its wider communities are facing.
Recovering from the pandemic only to head straight into the cost-of-living crisis is clearly having a serious impact on some tenants and service users, which in turn can have an impact on staff mental health and wellbeing.
SHARE have sought out training to help specifically with this issue. The course Mental Health and Working with the Public takes place on 21st March and seeks to help staff learn how to deal sensitively with customers that present with mental health problems, how to provide the most appropriate advice and guidance, and how to look after their own mental health and well being at the same time.
