MSP visits £9m scheme to transform homes in Greenock

Stuart McMillan MSP has praised a £9 million scheme to make 500 homes more energy efficient in Greenock.
Mr McMillan visited the project in Broomhill on Friday to see first-hand how work being delivered by Scottish Gas and River Clyde Homes will make homes warmer for residents and should result in lower energy bills.
Work began in March with solid wall insulation being added to the outside of properties. This reduces the amount of heat escaping through walls and helps homes stay warmer for longer.
The insulation also transforms the look of the buildings, giving them a fresh appearance.
Residents will also benefit from a new district heating system, which is a more energy efficient and cost effective way to heat homes.
The project should be completed by the end of the year.
Scottish Gas is undertaking the work as part of the Energy Companies Obligation (ECO). It also attracted financial support for homeowners through a Scottish Government funding scheme administered by Inverclyde Council. This allows owners to participate in the refurbishment works at zero or low cost.
Mr McMillan MSP said: “I am delighted to visit this project in Greenock and see where the funding will be spent to improve energy efficiency in homes.
“It’s important that households are supported to ensure their homes become more energy efficient, so it costs less to heat.
“Therefore, I welcome this investment by Scottish Gas and I’m sure the residents will also welcome having warmer and more energy efficient homes.”

“Residents will soon notice the benefits of this work by having warmer, more energy efficient homes and lower fuel bills.”
Willie Croft, property & development services director at River Clyde Homes, added: “These are exciting times as this major investment programme gets underway. Customers can see that things are really beginning to happen in Broomhill, with scaffolding going up on the low-rise blocks in the Ann Street area in preparation of the recladding and insulation works. The changes will be well underway by this summer.
“In the meantime other works are progressing with improvements to security and lighting at properties in the area.”
