Muirhouse Housing Association hails work of volunteers
Muirhouse Housing Association has used this year’s Volunteers’ Week to praise the work of those who serve Scotland’s housing association movement.
Volunteers Week Scotland runs until today and shines the spotlight on the remarkable role volunteers play in many aspects of Scottish life.
A shining example of this is the “heroic work” of housing Management Committees and Boards of Management across Scotland without whom housing associations and housing co-operatives could not function.
This week Muirhouse held an informal event at its Edinburgh offices featuring its own Board members and supporters of the housing association to coincide with Volunteers Week Scotland.
Commenting on the occasion which also included a tour of Muirhouse’s stock, chief executive Susan Bell said: “We want to pay tribute to volunteers in our community – not just those who serve the Association – but in the wider neighbourhood bringing people together and promoting community cohesion.
“Never has this been more important and Muirhouse as an Edinburgh community is well served by selfless people who give their time and talents freely for the benefit of others.
“We applaud the concept of Volunteers Week Scotland which reminds us all of the role volunteers play in underpinning Scottish life. I also want to take this opportunity to thank our own Board members for their ongoing commitment to Muirhouse Housing Association.”
Alan Stevenson, chief executive of Volunteer Scotland, added: “Volunteers are the lifeblood of Scottish communities and what better time to celebrate their very many vital contributions than during Volunteers’ Week. In celebrating volunteers and sharing their stories, we highlight the enormous breadth of volunteering opportunities on offer and demonstrate the many benefits – especially for volunteers.”
