Muirhouse Housing Association marks Scottish Housing Day
Muirhouse Housing Association celebrated Scottish Housing Day with an event to showcase how a local housing provider is an integral part of the community.
It turned its car park into an event venue featuring a range of contributors with the aim of offering advice and assistance around topics like tenant and resident safety, energy help, community engagement and careers advice.
As part of the event lunch was provided to local residents who turned out in large numbers in the autumn sunshine.
Fifth year pupils from nearby Craigroyston High School visited to learn first-hand about careers in housing from Muirhouse staff, Skills Development Scotland and the Capital City Partnership - the delivery body for Edinburgh’s jobs strategy.
Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue had stalls as did Muirhouse repairs contractor Harbour Multi Trades which delivers a range of community benefits in Muirhouse.
Other partners including Housing Health and Safety Compliance and safety business Aico were there to raise awareness around areas of tenant and resident safety.
Muirhouse chief executive, Susan Bell, said: “A key feature of our Scottish Housing Day celebrations was to involve all residents in our community in our event providing topics around safety in the home, careers in housing and community engagement.
“That’s why our focus - and that of our contributors who came along - was on being safe in your home with good advice from the police and the fire and rescue service”.
She added: “We were particularly pleased to welcome fifth year pupils from Craigroyston High School especially as this year’s theme of Scottish Housing Day was on celebrating housing as a career.
“Thank you to all our partners that attended or contributed to the event and a special thanks to the team at Muirhouse who made the event a huge success.”
