New affordable homes in Tomintoul handed over to tenants
The residents of twelve new affordable homes on a formerly derelict site in Tomintoul received their keys, marking the completion of the development.
To construct the new houses, the Tomintoul and Glenlivet Development Trust bought, demolished and redeveloped the village’s former abandoned secondary school. The school lay empty for more than twenty years.
The properties have been allocated to people with a strong connection to the Tomintoul and Glenlivet area and cannot be used as holiday lets or second homes, the Northern Scot reports.
Tilly Smith, the trust’s chairperson, revealed that a survey five years ago had identified the lack of affordable homes as a major issue.
She said: “This project represents a huge boost for our community. The trust has worked tirelessly on the community’s behalf on this regeneration project. We’re delighted to finally see houses become homes.”
