New build flats completed for Rutherglen and Cambuslang Housing Association
Despite the challenges of a year in lockdown, Rutherglen and Cambuslang Housing Association has successfully completed the development of 18 new homes on the site of an old filling station on Hamilton Road, Halfway in Cambuslang.
The £2.9 million development was built in a successful partnership with Wilson Developments (Scotland) Ltd.
Praising the standard of workmanship, John McNulty, the Association’s maintenance manager, said: “Everyone involved in the project worked together to ensure the highest standards were achieved and are delighted with the finished product.”
Tenants were also full of praise for their new homes and were impressed with the innovative measures taken to make the flats fuel efficient that will help reduce bills. These include the installation of modern solar panels, SMART meters high performance gas central heating systems and double glazed units.
All of the one-bedroomed flats are built to amenity standards specifically for elderly residents with disabilities or mobility issues and are fully wheelchair accessible. Most of the flats also have generously sized shower rooms with walk-in showers and open plan kitchens and living rooms. The two-storey building has a lift and resident parking to allow full accessibility.
Elaine Lister, the Association’s director, added: “In addition to our completion of the 35 amenity homes recently completed at Glenroyal Gardens, this development goes someway in delivering housing for the needs of our elderly and disabled community. We will continue to look for opportunities to provide more high quality, affordable housing for people in housing need and to support the communities we work in.”
