New council homes completed in Dunfermline
Fife Council has completed 32 new council houses at the site of a former MFI warehouse and petrol station in Dunfermline.
The Carnock Road site is part of Fife Council’s Affordable Housing Programme, and comprises a variety of one-, two-, three- and five-bedroomed properties ranging from one-bedroomed flats to five-bedroomed houses, and includes flats and bungalows for specific needs.
Councillor Judy Hamilton, executive spokesperson for housing & building services, visited the new development to meet one of the new tenants, Elizabeth Windmill who recently moved into a new house.
Miss Windmill, who lives with her two-year old son, Lyle, said: “We’re really happy in our new home, it has been so warm through the winter and already I feel my energy bills are lower. he off-street parking is a real benefit and having a secure garden at the back for Lyle to play in, is fantastic.”
Councillor Hamilton added: “It was great to be here today to see Elizabeth settling into her new house. This development is an important project for the council. It allows us to provide warmer, drier, healthier homes that will help us to address our severe need for affordable housing and create opportunities for people.
“These new council houses have brought a new lease of life to this part of Dunfermline. Our Affordable Housing Programme is on track to deliver the whole 2700 new affordable houses before May 2017. Despite significant financial challenges, Fife Council has invested over £150m in this Programme and we continue to invest in more desperately needed, good quality affordable housing. Not only are these new homes transforming the lives of the tenants who move into them, it’s freeing up their old homes for rent to others in housing need too.”
