New council homes to be delivered in Livingston

Barratt Homes East Scotland is set to deliver 33 new homes for West Lothian Council at its Woodland Gait site on Houstoun Road in Livingston.

The homes will include 6x 1-bedroom cottage flats, 12x 2-bedroom cottage flats, 4x 2-bed houses, 4x 2-bed bungalows and 7x 3-bedroom houses.

The development is being funded by West Lothian Council, with assistance from Scottish Government grant funds to make homes more environmentally friendly.

All 33 properties will benefit from zero direct emission heating systems with air source heat pumps to lower each home’s carbon footprint, making them more energy efficient and cutting home heating costs over the long term.

Work is set to commence this month with the homes anticipated to be ready for completion in early 2026.

Executive councillor for housing George Paul said: “The council continues to look at all possibilities to expand the social housing stock and meet the needs of those in search of housing. Livingston in particular is an area of huge demand so it is very pleasing to know that work will soon commence on this project.

“We look forward to working with Barratt Homes East Scotland on their Woodland Gait site to deliver high quality, energy efficient homes for future council tenants.”

Nick Wright, development director at Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes East Scotland, said: “Livingston is a thriving community and we’re seeing heightened demand for homes in the area due to its ideal location between Glasgow and Edinburgh. By working with West Lothian Council to deliver 33 affordable properties that not only have a quality finish but are energy efficient too, we’re aiming to meet a diverse range of needs in order to enhance the lives of those living in the community.”
