New health and social care partnership established in West Dunbartonshire
A new partnership responsible for health and social care provision across West Dunbartonshire will be established on July 1.
The West Dunbartonshire Health & Social Care Partnership Board brings together representatives from the West Dunbartonshire Council and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and replaces the previous Community Health and Care Partnership.
The move is part of the Scottish Government’s drive to improve health and social care services, and will see every local authority in Scotland merge its health and social care departments.
West Dunbartonshire’s health and social care services have been integrated since 2010, and so while the name is changing, residents will continue to receive the same joined-up and seamless service as before.
Councillor Gail Casey, chair of the West Dunbartonshire Health & Social Care Partnership Board, said: “With people living longer and healthier lives the needs of our residents are changing. Bringing health and social care provision together undoubtedly helps to improve people’s lives, especially those with long-term conditions and disabilities. As the new Board gets up and running, it will allow us to continue the excellent work which is already under way. We are committed to continually improving the services we offer residents, and I’m confident this is another step forward in the right direction.”
The Public Bodies (Joint Working) (Scotland) Act was agreed in April 2014, and as it is introduced across the country it will mean that Partnerships will be jointly accountable for delivering the nationally agreed outcomes.
