New homes set for former Baillieston care home site
A proposed residential development on the site of a former care home in Baillieston has been given the green light.
Spectrum West Ltd had sought permission to build 16 four-bedroom detached and semi-detached houses at 95 Muirhead Road.
In response to concerns raised with respect to over-development, the Jewitt and Wilkie Architects-designed proposal was changed from 16 units down to 12 and a small play area has been included.
Previously occupied by the Loancroft facility, the site lies between Muirhead Road to the north west, the Muirhead Day Care Centre to the south west, open ground to the south east associated with Loancroft Avenue and existing two-storey houses to the north.
The site has been recently cleared following the demolition of the former care facility with crushed materials spread evenly throughout, retaining a number of low level retaining structures and inspection chambers providing access to existing combined foul and surface water drainage from the Day Care Centre.
Glasgow’s planning applications committee has now agreed to the plans.
A design document submitted with the planning application stated: “The proposed scheme will complement and contribute to the local area providing additional high quality homes that meet the demand in the area.”
