New housing accommodating varying needs of older people in Elgin complete
Hanover Scotland has taken delivery of a new development for older people in Moray, which has been purpose built to provide innovative, high quality services, including dementia, wheel chair adapted and Extra Care facilities.
The housing association was given the keys for the Linkwood View development, just off Thornhill Road in Elgin, and the first residents will be able to move in from mid-August.
Developed in partnership with Health & Social Care Moray and the Scottish Government, the development consists of 30 two-bedroom flats including four wheelchair accessible flats, six flats specifically designed for people with dementia, and 20 extra care flats all in a single building.
Linkwood View is the second development in the area to use this model. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon recently had an official tour of Varis Court in Elgin, which features 33 individual flats including an augmented care unit providing complex health care interventions in a homely environment. Hanover Scotland’s third development in the region at Haugh Road in Elgin is due to be completed in the Autumn.
Every flat is designed for flexible use, maximises the use of space, is well insulated, and even features an air source heat pump to reduce heating costs. The development incorporates a communal Hub containing a reception area, common room, office/meeting room, toilets and kitchen/café area on the ground floor, as well as a sleepover suite and toilets on the first floor.
Helen Murdoch, chief executive of Hanover Scotland, said: “We are very proud of what we have achieved at Linkwood View in Elgin. Following on from the success of Varis Court in Forres, I am delighted that we have been able to develop modern housing that suits the varying needs of older people in the area.
“Crucially, we want people to remain in their own homes with their own front doors and our 24 hour support service, specialist dementia flats, and innovative extra care service in the other flats, is designed with this specifically in mind.
“By working in close partnership with Health and Social Care Moray, we have created a leading-edge blueprint for housing in the region which has been followed by our development currently under construction at Haugh Road in Elgin.”
