New Shetland housing work opportunities listed in new initiative
The Shetland construction industry can now find the latest information on local housing work opportunities on Shetland Islands Council’s website.
The new pages are part of Future Housing, a joint initiative between Shetland Islands Council and Hjaltland Housing Association, which aims to address the future housing provision challenges for Shetland up to 2034.
Following a successful meeting with industry representatives in April, the new resource has been developed to help local businesses take advantage of the opportunities available in the sector.
There’s information on upcoming events, minutes and reports from previous meetings, information on programmes of work and contracts, together with links to the Procurement Contracts Scotland and other useful areas such as Business Gateway.
Businesses can sign up to a mailing list to receive details on training, events and other opportunities by emailing future.housing@shetland.gov.uk providing their company name and email address.
The next Future Housing meeting will take place from 3pm to 5pm on Wednesday 23rd October 2024 at Room 16 Islesburgh Centre, Lerwick and industry representatives are encouraged to attend to discuss next steps. Anyone wishing to attend should email future.housing@shetland.gov.uk no later than Friday 11th October 2024.
Dennis Leask, chair of the council’s Development Committee, said: “Communication is a vital part of making this initiative work as we all strive towards the goal of providing affordable housing as well as making sure that our existing stock is maintained to a high standard. I would encourage any business with an interest in the housing industry to attend the next event and share your views.”
