New Loretto homes are helping bring families closer together
A Loretto Housing tenant has praised her spacious new-build home for helping to bring her family closer together.
Shamila Mohamed has just moved into her new home in Eriboll Crescent, Lambhill, in Glasgow.
And she said the space in her new kitchen means her family are spending more quality time together.
Shamila’s modern, energy-efficient home is one of 55 built by Loretto Housing, which is part of Wheatley Group, in Eriboll Crescent.
She was welcomed into her new home by Councillor Frank McAveety, leader of Glasgow City Council, along with Loretto director Cathy Fallon, tenants and staff from Loretto Housing and Wheatley Group and representatives from Glasgow City Council and contractors, Cruden.
Shamila, husband Abdul and her three children, moved into their new home at the end of last year.
She said: “I love everything about my new home.
“There’s much more space. My youngest daughter Raishkah now has her own room and that means she can study and do her homework in peace.
“She’s even doing better at school because of it.
“We didn’t have much room in our last house, but now we sit round the kitchen table and talk as a family.
“It’s definitely brought us closer together.”
Councillor Frank McAveety said: “It is tremendous to see people taking such pleasure in their new homes, such as is the case in these new houses and flats in Lambhill. I would like to congratulate all the partners in this project.”
The £6.4 million development in Eriboll Crescent is a mix of one and two-bedroom flats and two, three and four-bedroom houses.
It includes 17 amenity homes suitable for older tenants and five homes suitable for wheelchair-users.
Douglas Robin, chair of Loretto Housing, said: “These modern, spacious, energy-efficient homes are already making a big difference to the lives of the tenants living here. It’s another way Loretto is benefiting from being part of Wheatley Group.”
The homes were built by contractors Cruden Building and Renewals Ltd.
Allan Callaghan, Cruden Building and Renewals Ltd managing director, said: “We’re delighted to see first-hand the difference that these modern and spacious flats and houses are making to people’s lives.”
The new homes in Eriboll Crescent come after Loretto opened 26 homes in Hallglen, Falkirk, and 49 new homes in Huntershill Court, Glasgow, in 2015, as well as 21 homes for Loretto tenants in Mosspark Boulevard, Glasgow.
Work on 77 new Loretto homes in Barclay Street, Glasgow, should be complete by the end of the year.
Loretto will also be starting work on another 24 new homes in Muiryhall Street, Coatbridge, in the summer.
