The collaboration will establish a new approach to engineering delivery and lifecycle support for the construction and installation of gas grid entry infrastructure at biomethane plants.

The organisations will work together to develop technology which will enable greater biomethane capacity and maintain the highest levels of operational availability for its existing and prospective commercial clients.

The potential of green gas to heat and power UK homes and businesses will be enhanced through the partnership. By focusing on whole-system resilience, plant availability will be maximised, ensuring increased revenues for anaerobic digestion facility operators, plus more clean energy for producers and customers.

Biomethane is fully compatible with existing gas network infrastructure and there is no impact on the end user. This means it can decarbonise without sacrificing what customers need from their energy supply: resilience, reliability, and minimum disruption.

Approximately 20% of UK homes could be powered by biomethane by 2030. Utilising this ready-now heating solution could help reduce national emissions by up to 6% by the end of the decade.

SGN already delivers green heating to over 200,000 homes and has an ambition to fuel 450,000 homes thanks to biomethane flowing through its network by 2026.
