The National Landlords Association (NLA) has launched a new online lobbying tool to help landlords in Scotland fight proposed reforms to tenancy agreements.

The changes, which were introduced in last October’s Private Housing (Tenancies) (Scotland) Bill, intend to provide protection against rent increases as well as provide rent predictability. The bill also seeks to replace fixed-term tenancies with new indefinite contracts.

However, the bill has drawn criticism from the NLA which belives the plans pose problems for landlords with properties in Scotland as it will prevent them from ending tenancies when agreed. The organisation is encouraging those affected to lobby their MSPs by using their new online tool which can be accessed here.

Carolyn Uphill, chairman for the National Landlords Association (NLA), said: “We feel that the implications of this Bill will be far-reaching and severe for private rented housing in Scotland.

“The proposals will remove the flexibility of the sector to meet the varied needs of an ever-changing population of renters, particular students and those who only seek short term tenancies.

“This ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution is bound to fail and will only unnerve future investment in private housing so we urge all landlords to get involved use our lobbying tool. It’s easy to access and lets landlords lobby their MSP on this issue in a matter of minutes.”
