A GHA tenant has created the first news website aimed at the African-Caribbean community in Scotland.

Journalist Blandine Damtse, from Knightswood, set up Afrobean Echos in June.

The site is packed with news, opinion, lifestyle, education, business stories and features, as well as a directory for African-Caribbean initiatives in Scotland.

Blandine, 32, a former broadcast journalist in Cameroon, said: “Afrobean Echos is the first professional online magazine aimed at the Scottish African-Caribbean community.

“It is a voice of, by and about African and Caribbean people in Scotland. The purpose is to report on their activities, achievements and celebration as well as posting articles with their interests.

“I hope there is something for everyone.”

Blandine, who moved to Glasgow in 2012, is currently on Boost Employability’s Broadcast Production Skills training course based at, and in partnership with, BBC Scotland.

She hopes to use the skills she’s developing there to make the site even better.

Blandine added: “I want to invite the African-Caribbean community to contact us and help the website become even more useful – with more news, a diary of events, and a directory of African and Caribbean businesses, for example.

“Hopefully, it will become a real community resource.”
