ng homes appoints John Devine as new CEO
John Devine, former deputy CEO (regeneration) at ng homes, is to take on the role of CEO this month as Robert Tamburrini retires after 28 years of service.
Mr Devine initially joined ng homes in 2009 as head of business development and recently was deputy CEO (regeneration) of ng homes’ investment and regeneration department. Prior to joining ng homes, he held a senior position as head of enterprise and employer engagement at Glasgow Regeneration Agency overseeing the Glasgow Fort Development.
Mr Devine has a particular strength in developing regeneration initiatives that make a positive difference to local people on the ground and has a proven track record of leading, motivating and developing partnerships with positive outcomes.
He was instrumental in supporting the Business Improvement District model alongside Scotland’s Towns Partnership, local traders and the community. John has always been at the forefront of climate challenge projects around waste, recycling, energy saving and carbon reduction measures.
The positive impact of these initiatives resulted in the Association being presented with two awards from Keep Scotland Beautiful for Outstanding Contribution to Climate Change and Youth Engagement to promote climate change. This continues to be a main focus for the Association.
Robert Tamburrini, ng homes’ outgoing CEO, said: “John is a natural leader and has successfully developed our social enterprise ng2 which alone has an annual turnover of £4/5m and created 80+ permanent jobs. John has also helped ng homes develop its ongoing Investment Plan which is designed to improve our circa 5,400 homes and the local environment for the direct benefit of local tenants and residents.
“He has first-class knowledge and real expertise across a wide range of ng homes activities and I am in no doubt that he will be a great success in his new post working closely with the Board and staff team.”
Robert Tamburrini is to retire at the end of September 2021 after 28 years of championing affordable homes and ng homes’ vision of creating a community where people can flourish and prosper. Robert’s achievements include seven successful stock transfers, an exemplar performance rating, conceiving the concept of ng2 and developing it, growing ng homes from an annual turnover of under £1m to now circa £26m, attaining CIH Best Large Housing Association in the UK and the Scottish Government/SURF Award for Excellence in Regeneration, and leading with other partners on a range of ambitious housing projects all of which contribute to the ongoing regeneration of North Glasgow.
Reflecting on his career, he said: “It is my privilege to have worked for such a long time with the ng homes Board, colleagues and strategic partners. Together we have improved housing and the environment in the area. Much has been achieved working as part of a team but there’s no room for complacency as there is still much more to do in future. We must continue to act as a Community Champion within North Glasgow.”
John Thorburn, ng homes’ chairperson, commented: “On behalf of ng homes’ Board I want to thank Robert for his leadership, drive and determination. Robert has truly been an inspiration and led ng homes with a clear vision of a better future for local families. He has made a huge contribution to the development and growth of ng homes and its influence in North Glasgow. We are grateful for all his accomplishments over the past 28 years and we wish Robert all the very best for the future.
“John Devine is also a natural leader, bringing significant experience of leading change and he has a strong track record of developing partnerships across private, public and voluntary sector organisations. The Board and I are all very much looking forward to working closely with him as he moves into his new role.”
John Devine said: “I am delighted to have been confirmed as ng homes’ new Chief Executive and I am very much looking forward to working with the Association’s Board and staff to further build on Robert’s success. I am proud to be leading an organisation that has strong foundations and strives to provide affordable, good quality homes and regeneration interventions in the North Glasgow area.”
