ng homes helps launch Active Travel Hub in North Glasgow
A new Active Travel Hub has launched in North Glasgow as part of an ongoing partnership between ng homes and local organisations, including On Bikes based in Provan.
The Hub is the latest step in supporting active travel in the local community after the success of ‘Dr. Bike’ drop-in bike maintenance sessions which began earlier this year after being piloted post-pandemic.
The Hub, located on Eccles Street in Springburn, will be open weekly, offering advice on a wide range of active travel topics including bicycle maintenance, active travel tips, and the Associations bicycle storage options.
Additionally, the Active Travel Hub will also provide information and spread the word about their community bicycle distribution program, providing more opportunities for the local community to access refurbished bicycles which have been donated and checked over by mechanics before being offered to new owners.
The Hub also aims to promote and encourage sustainable travel and the benefits of cycling within the local community. By working in collaboration with local partners, the Hub hopes to provide accessible resources and knowledge to enhance cycling experiences for everyone.
Regular bike maintenance sessions with qualified mechanics will offer a valuable resource for cyclists of all ages and experience levels. Fresh off the success of the UCI Cycling Championships recently held in Glasgow, the Active Travel Hub and bike maintenance sessions will help to connect cyclists and those interested in getting started cycling with (the benefits of) active travel and opportunities to get involved in cycling across the local community and beyond.
