ng homes marks the Chinese Lunar New Year 2025
A vibrant display of cultural celebration will be filling the halls of the Glasgow City Chambers this weekend as part of a 15-day festival marking the start of the Chinese Lunar New Year.
A programme filled with colour, sound and light will entice guests on Sunday 2 February as part of the annual celebrations and will include a Lion Dance and an entertainment programme at a closed-door civic reception.
The Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is one of the most important festival events in the Chinese calendar. The Lunar Year 2025, which starts on Wednesday 29 January, celebrates the Year of the Snake, concluding with the Lantern Festival on 12 February. The Year of the Snake is said to symbolise wisdom and transformation and is seen as very important in offering opportunities for personal growth and change.
The new year is often celebrated with a traditional Dragon dance with red a traditional colour for the festival signifying good fortune, luck vitality, celebration and prosperity. Landmarks around Glasgow and Scotland will be lit up in red to mark the new year.
Catherine Rossine, ng homes chair, said: “We have been pleased to support the work of the Chinese community for many years, sharing their culture and celebrations to our communities and the City of Glasgow.
“ng homes are delighted to support the Chinese New Year celebrations once again. Although the festivities are taking a slightly different shape this year, it is wonderful to see the colour, sights and sounds return to Glasgow once again. The celebrations continue to go from strength to strength and we hope to see it continue for many years to come.
