ng homes welcomes new community board members

Three new community board members have been added to the board of ng homes.

Shawn Fernandez, Jacob Sony and Andriy Strekhaliuk joined the board at the organisation’s 2024 AGM.

ng homes said their insights will be invaluable in enhancing its services and ensuring that it meets the needs of tenants, residents and communities.

Shawn Fernandez is a recent graduate from Glasgow Kelvin College in Community Development and has a background in law enforcement.

He is a founder of the Springburn Unity Network, based in the Springburn Shopping Centre and has previously served on the Board of the United Glasgow Football Club. Shawn is a keen promoter of community development as well as leading on growing awareness and understanding of the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within organisations and the local community. Shawn was a recipient of the SCVO Scottish Charity Awards ‘Volunteer of the Year’ in 2021.

Shawn is looking forward to bringing these passions into his role within the ng homes Board as well as bringing additional opportunities to work with groups at all levels, both within North Glasgow and across the city of Glasgow through ng homes’ community engagement projects and initiatives.

Jacob Sony

Jacob Sony is a recent graduate from the University of Strathclyde and is a qualified British Cycling Coach and Ride Leader.

He has previously been involved with ng homes with community projects in and around North Glasgow as well as Clyde Cycle Park in Cambuslang. He has a passion for cycling and promoting the uptake of cycling amongst young people.

Jacob is looking forward to learning how the ng homes Board works and contributing to the local community, with a focus on community engagement, helping grow and develop connections across ng homes’ communities.

Andriy Strekhaliuk has 13 years’ experience in HR and Organisational Development and recently graduated from the University of Glasgow. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience of community building from previous community roles in Ukraine.

He believes in empowering individuals through collaborative and inclusive initiatives, bridging cultural divides, and ensuring all community members feel valued and supported.

Andriy is looking forward to learning more about the ng homes Board, how the Board works and contributing to the local community, particularly helping the Ukrainian community be part of the North Glasgow community, and seeks to enhance ng homes’ role in community empowerment and development.
