NHS submits plans for new homes at former Liff Hospital

NHS Tayside is seeking permission to build 58 new homes on the site of Dundee’s former Liff Hospital as part of the Western Gateway development.

EMA is seeking planning in principle on behalf of NHS Tayside to convert the land into residential use. The new houses would be part of the 700 homes already approved for the new ‘village’.

The applicant wrote: “Open space is provided centrally in the northeast of the site. Homes surround this area, accessed via pedestrian-prioritised shared drives. A further area of open space is located in the northwest corner, providing an attractive arrival point for pedestrians along the proposed footpath.

“Street arrangements, context, materials and forms will be used to develop character areas at key locations within the proposal. This will aid in wayfinding and create a place which is pleasant and creates a quality place.”

The development would be located next to the B-listed hospital and makes provision for direct access to established cycle routes to promote active travel, Urban Realm reports.
