North Ayrshire consults on second homes council tax levy
North Ayrshire Council has launched a community consultation to gather views on the proposal to implement an additional Council Tax levy on second homes from 1 April 2025.
With the aim of helping to increase the availability of housing by encouraging more homes to be used for living in and to generate additional revenue for the council to help protect vital services, the Scottish Government has introduced new powers which enable councils to double the rate of council tax payable on second homes.
The local authority is seeking the views of people from across North Ayrshire, especially its island communities on Arran and Cumbrae, on the proposal that North Ayrshire Council utilises these powers to implement an additional Council Tax levy on second homes from 1 April 2025.
