North Lanarkshire tenants benefit from record housing investment
People living in more than 26,000 homes across North Lanarkshire are set to benefit from a bumper £250 million investment over the next five years.
North Lanarkshire Council is spending the money on new bathrooms, kitchens, windows, heating systems and roofing.
Already enjoying the benefits of a new modern fitted kitchen and bathroom are Newarthill couple Anne and John Cummings who have lived in their council home for 48 years.
Anne said: “We are delighted with our new bathroom, which was completed a couple of weeks ago, and also with the kitchen we had fitted by the council.
“We were able to choose the style of units and tiles and the fitters have done a great job. Our friends and family have been really impressed with the results.”
Councillor Paul Kelly, depute leader of North Lanarkshire Council, paid a visit to the couple to see first-hand the improvement works.
He said: “The £250m we’re investing is unprecedented. It is a clear demonstration of our commitment to improving the homes and lives of our residents.
“Over the next two years, we’ll install over 5,000 new kitchens, 6,800 new bathrooms and 2,800 windows replacements.
“This programme is linked directly to feedback for our tenants on the areas of investment and improvement they want to see in their homes.
“I was delighted to visit Mr and Mrs Cummings to see and hear about the difference this programme is making to families across the area.”
