NUS Scotland to hold student housing rally at Scottish Parliament
Students from across the country are expected at the National Union of Students (NUS) Scotland student housing rally today at the Scottish Parliament.
The rally takes place as recent research finds student rent has increased by 34% in the last three years in Scotland, with 12% of students experiencing homelessness during their studies.
The rally will hear demands to introduce rent controls, extend tenancy rights to all students and create a student housing guarantee.
Speakers at the rally include the minister for tenancy rights, Patrick Harvie; Labour MSP and education spokesperson, Michael Marra; Conservative MSP and education spokesperson, Pam Gosal; Lib Dem MSP and education spokesperson, Willie Rennie; SNP MSP and member of the Local Government, Housing and Planning Committee, Paul McLennan; NUS Scotland president Matt Crilly; Living Rent Spokesperson, Barry Hill and student speakers.
