NVDC Architects appointed to design new Kelvindale homes
Adam Scotland and Hirst landscape architects have appointed NVDC Architects to design 30 new apartments for a site located at 97 Cleveden Road in Kelvindale.
By replacing the Rannoch House Care Home with a modern apartment block, the project will bring forward the building line to reinforce an urban street edge, animated by projecting circulation and entrance cores.
A combination of two and three-bedroom flats will be built with 38 parking spaces and 38 cycle bays, with apartments also having private terraces and balconies as well as a shared amenity space to the rear, Urban Realm reports.
The architects said: “Our sensitively proposed materiality and detailing have been chosen and designed to respect and complement the cultural context of Kelvinside House and the nearby Glasgow West Conservation Area. The ground floor level of the facade is clad with blonde natural stone, whilst the facade materiality to the upper levels is blonde brick.
“This layout of a bold formal material arrangement to the street level and a more inconspicuous repetitive arrangement to the upper floors is reminiscent of traditional tenement facade layouts, where the ground floor responds directly to the street scene.”
