Obituary: Charles Millar, chairperson of Lanarkshire Housing Association

Charles Millar

It is with great sadness that the management committee of Lanarkshire Housing Association (LHA) has announced the death of its chairperson Charles Millar following a short illness.

Originally a tenant of LHA, Charlie was elected to the management committee in 1984 where he served in a variety of positions but most recently as chairperson following his election in 2019.

An art school graduate and teacher by profession, he used his keen eye for design and interest in construction to help promote both the Association’s development strategy as well as have a huge input into the creative decisions surrounding the image branding and marketing policies. It was his vision that helped the Association realise the potential for having a custom designed and built office for the business, and it was his energy, enthusiasm and commitment that played such a pivotal role in making the Association the modern and progressive landlord and employer it is today.

His skills and experience were recognised by others and Charlie served as a statutory appointee on the board of Cumbernauld Housing Partnership and he relished the challenges of this appointment.

Charlie was an unswerving supporter of the RSL movement in Scotland and he championed the interests of tenants tirelessly during his long period of service with LHA.

The sudden and premature loss of Charlie has come as a great shock to staff, committee and tenants. A frequent visitor to the office, Charlie was more than just a committee member, he was a colleague and a friend. He will be missed.

A funeral service for Charlie will be held on Wednesday 9 August 2023 - 11.30am at Holytown Crematorium.
