On-song volunteers are given thanks at Bield
Tenants at two Fife retirement housing developments were able to sing for their supper while giving thanks for the positive impact volunteers have had on their lives and homes.
Bield’s Anderson Court, in Fife – just one of the developments thanking volunteers for their hard work – played host to visitors from The Knowe development and laid on a musical celebration for everyone to enjoy.
As part of Volunteers’ Week, celebrations took place across the UK to commemorate the millions of volunteers who put others first, including those who have supported Bield’s tenants.
Mary Miller, Manager at Anderson Court and the Knowe, said: “The impact our volunteers have at our developments and in the wider community is absolutely fantastic.
“We wanted to extend our thanks to everyone who has lent a hand and helped improve the lives of everyone from the tenants and their families, to the staff.”
Tenants and befrienders from Anderson Court made the trip to The Knowe where a singer and entertainer got everyone in the packed lounge involved in some audience participation and into a celebratory mood.
Culminating with an a capella performance in Scots from a tenant who ditched the backing track for a rendition of a traditional song, the entertainment was accompanied by a buffet laid on by staff.
Volunteers were later presented with certificates of thanks in appreciation of their hard work.
Mary added: “Putting on some entertainment and a bit of a feast was the least we could do to thank them for their efforts.
“It was great to see everyone getting involved, it really embodied the fun and social engagement that our volunteers have helped contribute to the developments.”
The Knowe has two silver surfer volunteers, who give their time to help educate tenants on the best use of computers and other devices like tablets and smartphones and a social activity coordinator who, alongside a tenant-run social club, helps to plan a range of activities.
Two befrienders at Anderson Court spend one on one time with tenants, helping to bring much needed social engagement to tenants.
