Only two weeks to go until Share’s Annual Conference takes place!

There are now only two weeks to go until Share’s showpiece annual conference will take place at the Hilton, Glasgow on Thursday, 24th of April 2025.
This year is a special year one for the Share team as they celebrate their 40th anniversary. The conference will run throughout the day with inspiring keynote speakers, engaging workshops, lots of networking opportunities and fantastic exhibitor viewing.
Share are delighted to be joined by their opening keynote speaker, Dr Kelly Henderson, founder & managing director of Addressing Domestic Abuse & board member of Believe Housing, who will deliver a presentation on The role of Housing Providers in recognising and responding to domestic abuse.
This session will set the scene in relation to domestic abuse legislation, the extent of domestic abuse in Scotland and consider what it means for social landlords and will consider how we can recognise domestic abuse in our day-to-day housing management roles; including income maximisation and rent arrears, repairs, anti-social behaviour and noise nuisance and the difference we can make in all our customer contacts. The session will also make the business case for housing providers responding to domestic abuse as well as it being the right thing to do. This presentation will bring together understanding of domestic abuse and practical tips and advice on what housing providers can do – not to be missed by those working on the frontline of their organisations, senior management and customer service roles.
The second keynote speaker of the day is Keith Read, former group compliance & ethics director, British Telecom (BT) & Author – ‘The Unconventional Compliance Officer’ who will deliver a presentation around Is it regulation or learning and culture that make the impactful changes? Doing things differently.
This session is not about comparing regulatory mechanisms; it is about learning from another sector and how compliance systems and processes were changed to fulfil new regulatory requirements – using tools, techniques and approaches that you will not have encountered previously. Crucially, these mean that a strong culture of learning, development and compliance can be embedded – and recognised by regulators and key stakeholders.
There will also be six engaging workshops facilitated at the conference relating to hot topics affecting the sector:
Morning workshops
• Workshop 1: Repairs Roundtable: Join us for a discussion on how to shore up asset and repairs talent in the housing sector
• Workshop 2: Tackling the mental health crisis
• Workshop 3: From AI integration to Westie
Afternoon workshops
• Workshop 1: Distinct and aligned: The benefits of close and formal partnership working in communities to sustain the community-based model
• Workshop 2: What does the Housing Bill’s homelessness prevention duty mean for housing associations?
• Workshop 3: Cyber Security Roundtable: Why and how housing associations are staying safe online
There will also be a panel discussion in the afternoon around The next 40 years: Innovation in tackling the challenges ahead. Share will be joined by Alison Watson, Director of Shelter who will discuss the relationship between poverty and homelessness in the context of Scotland’s worsening Housing Emergency, arguing that those suffering at the sharp end of the Housing Emergency are the same people suffering from the scourge of poverty and that increasing the supply of social housing is essential to both reducing poverty, as well as tackling homelessness. Nick Clark, director, Ore Valley Housing Association, will focus on the challenges the sector faces in terms of unclear targets, costs, and wider Government policy regarding Net Zero and Joyce Orr, Director of Pineview Housing Association will discuss the importance of people for the future, including diversity, behaviours, values, knowledge and skills. Investment in, and development of, people is crucial to ensuring the sector provides the best services to meet what tenants and customers expect now and into the future.
Paula McGuire, Adventurer, Motivational Speaker and Coach of ‘Paula Must Try Harder’ will close the annual conference with her inspiring story which is a powerful testament to the human capacity to confront fear, break down barriers, and achieve the extraordinary. Her journey resonates deeply with anyone who has faced anxiety or self-doubt, and her insights offer invaluable lessons for both personal and professional growth. By sharing her experiences and strategies, Paula encourages her audience to reclaim control over their lives and harness stress as a catalyst for positive change. At this conference, we aim to provide attendees with actionable insights and inspiration from Paula’s journey. Participants will leave with practical tips and strategies they can implement in their organisations and personal lives to foster a culture of resilience, creativity, and growth.
