Ore Valley staff organise marathon walk for local charity
The Healthy Working Lives team at Ore Valley Housing Association have organised a marathon-style, 20-mile sponsored walk from South Queensferry to Kirkcaldy in order to raise money for Maggie’s Centre in Fife, to ensure the amazing work the centre provides can continue.
The walk is taking place on the 5th September, with both Ore Valley staff and friends taking part.
A spokesperson from Maggie’s Centre said: “We are delighted that Ore Valley Housing Association have organised a walk to support Maggie’s and people affected by cancer in Fife. It is great that as a group of colleagues they are doing something active together because evidence shows that exercise like walking, offers many benefits, from reducing fatigue and improving your wellness and physical fitness, to building your confidence during and after cancer treatment. On behalf of the Centre I would like to say a big thanks to everyone involved.”
In 2013, over 31,000 men, women and children were diagnosed with cancer in Scotland, and around half ended in death.
Maggie’s is an incredible charity which provides an extensive range of free support to those who need it. With the first centre opening in Edinburgh in 1996, today there are 18 Maggie’s Centres across the UK, with the Fife branch located in Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.
