Orkney Housing Association’s Cat Browne completes Everest challenge
Cat Browne, finance and asset management administrator at Orkney Housing Association, has completed a charity walking challenge.
Ms Browne was set to take on the trip of a lifetime walking the foothills of the Himalaya to Everest Base Camp this October.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t to be, but having postponed her trip until next year Cat decided to put on her walking boots setting off on September 12 to climb Wideford Hill (225m) in Kirkwall 40 times over seven days, from sea-level until she had ascended the equivalent height of Everest (8848m) to raise money for Armed Forces Charity SSAFA and the local Kirkwall & St Ola Army Cadets.
Setting off in some really challenging conditions, Cat embraced the weather and completed the climb on Friday.
Cat Browne said: “It’s been a long, tough week with a lot of early starts, whiney legs and feet, and every weather imaginable. I am delighted to have completed this challenge and look forward to hopefully admiring Everest for real in the not too distant future – especially knowing that I don’t have to climb it (again!)”
