Partick Housing Association and partners present cheque for £5,000 at Christmas tea dance
Some of Partick’s finest were treated to a fun-filled afternoon as Partick Housing Association (PHA) hosted a free Christmas Afternoon Tea Dance for over 60s.
The event was held to help tackle loneliness and isolation affecting elderly people over the festive period.
Attendees and representatives of local health and wellbeing organisation Annexe Communities were invited to join PHA tenants at Partick Burgh Hall. They tucked into sandwiches and sweet treats and enjoyed music from big band That Swing Sensation. A dance instructor was on hand to encourage people onto the dance floor and show them some moves. By the end of the afternoon, not a single person was left in their seat as everyone joined in the dancing.
The event was part-funded by one of PHA’s contractors CBC. PHA and CBC have teamed up with Mitie to support the Annexe Communities’ Connects2Project with funding totalling £5,000 and were delighted to present a cheque at the dance. The funds will be used to support activities including health walks, complementary therapies, Twinkle Toes, well-being yoga classes, gentle exercise classes, film club, and art classes.
There was a great atmosphere in the room. One attendee said: “A big thank you to all at PHA for a great day at Partick Burgh Hall. The Tea Dance was wonderful, and we really enjoyed the music, dancing and food. A good time was had by all.”
Jane Cowie, Connects2Project development officer at Annexe Communities, added: “We really appreciate the support from Partick Housing Association, CBC and Mitie. They’ve saved the day and given us a real boost in times when we are finding funding harder to come by.
“The Connects2Project supports over 400 local folk, over 60 years young, improving physical, mental and emotional health – providing time and space to have a laugh and make new friends. The project also provides opportunities to volunteer, sharing skills and talents. We work to support people to reach any, so far unfulfilled, dream or aspirations they may have.
“This funding from PHA and their contractors will be put to very good use and is appreciated by many.”
